Five Minute Friday: We all have the write to tell our stories.

Five Minute Friday

Today I’m participating in Lisa-Jo Baker’s Five Minute Friday linkup for the first time.

The rules to Five Minute Friday can be found here, but basically we’re supposed to write for five minutes without filtering our thoughts or pressing the delete key. You set the timer and just go until the time is up.

This week’s prompt is WRITE.

GO:

I write because I can say things with a pen (or a keyboard) that I can’t with my tongue. I honor the craft, and when the words aren’t flowing on the page, or when everything I type is unredeemable chicken feces, I only have more reverence for this elusive art form.

Even the chicken feces, I honor. I (usually) don’t publish it, but I celebrate how writing is the physical act of putting my soul on a page.

Isn’t it frightening to put your soul on a page for anyone to see? What will they think?

I write because I have stories burning inside me to tell. I write because as a human with experiences, I have the right to tell them. I am finding myself in this blog, getting stronger and healthier with each post.

We all have the right to tell our stories. Not writing because out of fear of what other people think is an assault on myself, and an assault on the people who need to read me – who you are, I don’t know yet.

Have you worried that your stories will offend someone, or shock them?

Here’s what I know so far: I can treat the people in my stories with grace, but only after I give myself the ultimate grace, which comes to me with pen.

And when I inevitably hear from someone who disagrees, who tells me to stop writing, then I’ll know I’ve finally gotten past the fluff and I’m prickling just the first layer of the story I really need to tell.

STOP

Want to write your soul words with us today? Join us:

Today was my first day participating too! I loved your post. It is about baring your soul when you write. The therapy is real and cheaper than a therapist!
